Micro Darts

Micro darts are the most commonly used dart in today's Nerf guns.  They fly pretty far and are very accurate.  They vary a lot, there are loads of different colour schemes on them and different types of suction.  Most common ones are the suction and whistling tips.  However, there are newer darts with different style tips like the dart tag darts (far right bar one). etc.  Some of the best micro darts are the airjet which are much lighter with lighter tips that can sting.  Airjet darts on this picture are the first three you see starting from the left.  The newest type of micro dart is the streamline dart (far right), which are specially designed for the Longshot CS-6, however they can be used in any other micro dart firing gun.

Mega Darts

Mega darts are the next step up in size from micro darts.  They aren't made for the newer guns anymore (the last mega dart firing gun we saw was in 2003 with the Tech Target).  You will however find that a lot of the older guns like the Crossbow, Chainblazer, Rototrack, Sawtooth and many more use them.  These darts are bigger, fatter and a little heavier than micro darts getting less range.  Although since they are bigger there is more chance of you hitting someone.  Like micros there are a range of different types of mega dart, from large suction tipped ones, to airjet ones to whistling ones.  There were even some other rare ones that had fins on them (Sharpshooter darts).  Lots of different colour combinations as well for mega darts just like micros.  Like there were orange body with blue suction tipped megas for guns out of the Max Force line .etc.  A lot of people don't really use megas anymore, even in mega dart firing guns, since there are ways which enable mega dart firing to guns to turn into micro and homemade dart firing guns that greatly increase their power, range, and most importantly their usefulness on the battlefield.

Arrows

Ah yes, the good ol' arrow.  Once again we don't see arrow firing guns anymore (unless you class the rereleased Big Bad Bow as one).  However, that doesn't mean to say that arrows are bad, they are actually pretty good.  In guns like the Big Bad Bow they fire damn far and are pretty accurate.  Although the accuracy will go down if you don't take care of the fins on the arrow, this will not make the arrow fly straight making it often curve off target.  There are again lots of different colour combination and different types of arrow.  The two arrows on the far left in the picture are the normal 11" arrows, the red arrow with black twisted fins are the special type of 9" arrow used in the Big Bad Bow (old style) which spun through the air.  The last arrow on the far right isn't a Nerf arrow, its a Lanard arrow.  These, in my opinion, are the best type of arrow out there for guns like the Big Bad Bow, it shoots further than its own twisted arrows.  There are also other arrows out there, there were special 9" whistling arrows that had a big whistling tip on the front made for the Triple Strike.  These arrows were very aerodynamic because of this allowing for greater distance.  11" suction tipped arrows were also made, these provided a slight sting.  Arrows were pretty popular back in the day, although now they aren't sadly though.

Missiles

Missiles are basically a smaller, shorter and less thick form of an arrow.  They are also far more inaccurate and not really used anymore.  Not to mention not being made on any of the newer guns out today.  Guns like the NB-1, Double Crossbow, Missilestorm (regarded as one of the best missile weapons made) .etc. used missiles which gave them bad ratings, you'll find them on a lot of review sites.  While they fired pretty far, accuracy let them down, you also had to take more care with their fins as well.  Not very popular lads eh?

Big Missiles/Rockets

These big missiles/rocket were used used in the big and unpractical launchers.  These include the Maximizer (far left), Ultimator (far right), XXL Bazooka (middle) and the Titan (missile not pictured).  The Titan missile is pretty much the same as the ones pictured above really, big, large and intimidating.  These were pretty cool, and shot very far out of each of the launchers each of them belonged to.  However, because of this long range, accuracy was literally nothing, you didn't know where the missile would go, that's why it was just best to use these large missile/rocket launchers for plain fun and messing around, surely you can't say no to that!

Balls

Well, most would regard this type of ammo as balls in terms of performance but still, I'll go through it.  The ball was one of the first types of ammo used in classic guns like the Ballzooka, they were a big hit for its time.  Now though, times have changed, there are much better types of ammo and weapon out there than the ball.  Still, this ammo sort of started Nerf off, so it needs some credit.  Balls also while being very inaccurate, low ranged and slower is still good for indoors, especially for clearing rooms with ball guns that have a rapid rate of fire.  Balls have come in many colours.  Blue, purple, yellow and green, all look ok.  And no, Nerf balls aren't compatible with male sexual organs here.

Vortex Rings

The great Vortex Ring.  These were used in guns part of the Vortex line like the Tornado and Firestorm.  A great type of aerodynamic ammo, these rubber rings flew great distances.  They flew fast and were also hard to see and dodge for that matter.  Despite this, they were affected by wind because they were so light.  A really good type of ammo, its too bad it is no longer being made, which really limits the guns that use it in big wars.  The vortex rings came in two different sizes.  There was the bigger size which is pictured here used in the Firestorm, Powerstrike, Tornado and Tornado X/2.  There was also the smaller size of vortex ring (no picture available yet) which was used in the Fast Fire, Spin Fire and Viper Shot.  The vortex ring came in different colours too, they were I think in red, yellow and green.  Pretty nice colour, now combine that with nice blasters and you get the cherry on the cake!

Larami Darts

Larami darts are very rare nowadays since Larami have stopped doing them.  However, they are a very good type of ammo.  They are about the same same length as micro darts and the same width as megas.  Their performance is also very good, they are very accurate and have great range.  These had pretty big holes in the back to fit in properly with the Larami SuperMAXX guns different barrels.  These darts had different colours.  There were black bodied with red tipped shorter darts (far left), green bodied with pink tipped shorter and longer darts (longer dart far right) and there were also shorter yellow bodied with red tipped darts.  Too bad these aren't being made anymore, oh well, if you have some, be proud!

Other

There are other types of foam out there that not much is known about, there is some here.

First, we have the legendary Zing Shot (review coming soon) zing ring ammo (top).  This is basically a large vortex ring made of mostly foam with a plastic green circle around the front to give it some weight.  Its well built.  This ring is basically the same structure and fly's pretty much the same as a vortex ring.  Its very accurate, shoots extremely far and is affected by wind (although not as much as the vortex rings).  The zing ring though since its much bigger has a much bigger chance of hitting someone, along with hitting someone harder too!  Exactly what we want!  There are refill packs of these made, although I haven't seen any anywhere yet, online and locally.  This yet again is a pretty unpractical piece of ammo, although great for messing around yet again.

Next, we have a strange suction mega dart with fins on it (bottom).  And before you say anything, this is NOT a Sharpshooter dart which had the fins on it.  I tried fitting it in a Sharpshooter and the fins are too large for it to fit in.  So, it remains unknown as to where this dart came from and what gun it belongs to.  Its a very good version of a mega dart look alike, although like I said before, its unknown as to what this belongs to, so this "other" dart remains a mystery. Wooooo...scary!
